Every page here uses three to eight colors and areas big enough for a crayon, so a child can finish it without help. The very easy ones are a single pumpkin, a ghost, an ornament, a baby dinosaur, with a key of three or four colors, good for ages two to five. The medium ones add a simple background, a fence, a moon, a river, and suit ages five to nine. Each page shows what it looks like finished, so children can pick by the result before anything gets printed.

How to start with a young child

Pick a page whose key has three or four colors. Read the key together, point to number 1, and let the child find every area with that number before moving on. It turns the page into a counting and matching game as much as a coloring one.

Crayons over markers

Thick outlines forgive a wobbly hand, and a crayon covers a big area faster than a marker. Save pencils and fine markers for the detailed pages in the adult section.
